Dr Edossa Fikuru Wayima received his PhD in Applied Genetics (Biology) from Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia in 2017. His research aimed at studying aluminium tolerance and genetic diversity in durum wheat germplasm. He was granted an African Biosciences Challenge Fund (ABCF) research fellowship by the BecA-ILRI (Biosciences east and central Africa – International Livestock Research Institute) to investigate the molecular and physiological mechanisms of aluminium tolerance in wheat by using transcriptomics and GC-MS techniques. He also studied genetic diversity in various crops, and contributed significantly in the development of some improved crop varieties.

His research interests are focused mainly on investigating the molecular and physiological mechanisms of abiotic stress tolerance in plants, with a special emphasis on tolerance to the major abiotic stresses such as drought, soil acidity and salinity.

Dr Wayima has published several research articles in international and national journals, including Agronomy, Journal of Plant Registrations, African Journal of Biotechnology, African Journal of Plant Science, International Journal of Genetics and Molecular Biology, East African Journal of Sciences, Pest Management Journal of Ethiopia, among others.
